Our pieces are explorations of material and form—sculptures of light rooted in Mexico’s rich heritage. Each piece embodies a dialogue between tradition and innovation, between the raw and the refined.
Founded in 2008, Studio davidpompa is a practice devoted to materiality and craft. Based in Mexico City, we create lighting pieces that go beyond function—they tell stories. Each object carries the weight of history while embracing a contemporary language. Our approach is intuitive, guided by curiosity, research and a deep respect for materials.
Our work moves fluidly between product design, spatial interventions, and experimental processes. We challenge materials, test their limits, and uncover new ways of expressing their natural beauty. Each collection builds on the last, evolving our language and expanding our understanding of craft.
Challenging Materials and embracing Imperfection
Materials define our process, shape our objects, and connect us to tradition. Each piece results from an exchange between craftsmen and the studio, past and present, Mexico and the world. We seek character over perfection, valuing irregularities, the trace of the hand, and textures that reveal process and time. Craft is our way of exploring and refining—a practice of exploration, research, and purpose.
Crafting with Purpose
Every decision is rooted in respect—for materials, the people who shape them, and the landscapes they come from. We minimize waste, honor each resource, and source responsibly to ensure integrity and endurance. Collaborating closely with artisans, we preserve heritage while providing stability. Our pieces are made to last, to be repaired, to evolve beyond trends—an ongoing dialogue with nature, a commitment to innovation with purpose.
A Deep Connection with our History
Our collections celebrate iconic Mexican materials—black clay, volcanic stone, handwoven palma, and handblown recycled glass—each with a rich history shaped by tradition. We collaborate closely with craftsmen to refine techniques, reinterpreting historical processes in a contemporary context. Every piece reflects the dialogue between material and maker, balancing heritage and innovation.
We are a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and makers, driven by cultural exchange, curiosity, and a search for new possibilities. We challenge conventions, rethink boundaries, and strive for excellence in every detail—from product design to photography and graphics, ensuring a seamless, interconnected vision.
